Tips and Area

For panoramic breakfast and light lunch go to Porta Settimiana Bar. Delicious croissons and tramezzini (white bread sandwiches cut crosswise with several fillings) and admire the the gate in the Aurelian wall dating back to 1498.

If you follow the Lungara road you will go to the Vatican direction.

Where to eat:

Trattoria Da Lucia: Vicolo del Mattonato, 2.  Small but charming and typical. For lunch and dinner.

Antica Pesa: Via Garibaldi, 18 (tel. +39-06-5809236), web-site: www.anticapesa.it. In XVII Century it used to provide bread and wine to taxpayers that used to go to pay taxes on grain on the PapalState customs offices located in Via Garibaldi. Nowadays famous elegant restaurant with splendid garden where summer evenings are spent.

Antico Arco: Piazzale Aurelio, 7 (tel. +39-06-5815274). Very popular gourmet restaurant formed by three friends in the mid-nineties. The risotto with Castelmagno cheese together with the duck breast in raspberry sauce are a must. Reservations needed.

Where to go:

For a spectacular view of Rome, head up to Janiculum hill. On your way you will find the church of San Pietro in Montorio built where Saint Peter is believed to have been crucified and the Bramante’s "Tempietto", famous for its cloister and artwork.

If you want to get in touch with nature goeither the Villa Pamphili park or Villa Sciarra park, the former further up and the latter further down Janiculum hill. Void of tourists, this running, walking and biking trail draws old and young alike. During the weekdays, granparents pushing strollers are common while on the weekends, couples and families arrive to picnic and to play soccer. If thirsty do as Romans: put your finger over the fontanella, waterspout to redirect the flow to the small hole in top.
