This Roman apartment is right in the main campus of Rome’s university La Sapienza, on the far side of Via Tiburtina, to the railway tracks. The nearby university provides the district with a large students population that encouraged the transformation of the area and its vicinity into a vibrant, all-night venue for bars, typical trattorias and clubs. The bohemian and artist population have their headquarters in the close area of San Lorenzo, an authentic working-class neighbourhood that retains something of the air of a local district, quite different from the rest of the city centre. It’s home of some good and often inexpensive local restaurants. Also the location of the Verano cemetery.

 

Tram Tram - Via dei Reti, 44-46

The name of this restaurant refers to the tramline that runs along the Via dei Reti. South Italian menu perfectly blends with Roman cuisine. Orecchiette pugliesi with broccoli and clams. The décor cleverly employs disused train parts converted into wine racks and banquette seating in the bar area.

Romantic candle-lit restaurant where to find good food and excellent list of wines (excellent list of more than 350 labels). Red onion flan, salad of fennel, black olives and oranges, pasta with anchovies and breadcrumbs.

 

Pommidoro - Piazza dei Sanniti, 44

Famous restaurants serving traditional Roman cuisine. Grilled meats, spaghetti alla carbonara, alla gricia (with bacon and pepper) and alla pajata (with veal’s intestines) are a must. It is great to sit in the outdoor annex looking on to the Sanniti square.
